New Delhi, 05th February 2026: The Ministry of Railways has identified 1,337 stations across the country for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with redevelopment work completed at 172 stations so far, the Lok Sabha was informed.

The scheme has been launched with a long-term approach to station redevelopment and focuses on preparing comprehensive master plans for each station, which are being implemented in phases. The objective is to upgrade station infrastructure in line with passenger requirements and future traffic growth.

As part of the master planning process, the scheme includes improvement of station access and circulating areas, integration of stations with both sides of the city, and upgradation of station buildings. Passenger facilities such as waiting halls, toilets, seating arrangements and drinking water booths are being improved or added.

The plan also предусматриes wider foot overbridges or air concourses based on passenger traffic, along with provision of lifts, escalators and ramps. Platform surfaces and platform covers are being improved, while kiosks for local products are being provided through initiatives such as the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme.

Other components include development of parking areas, multimodal integration, amenities for Divyangjan passengers and enhanced passenger information systems. Depending on station-specific requirements, facilities such as executive lounges, designated spaces for business meetings and landscaping are also part of the redevelopment plans.

The scheme also incorporates sustainable and environment-friendly measures, including the provision of ballastless tracks where required, phased execution based on feasibility, and long-term planning for development of stations as city centres.

The information was shared by the Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
