Pune District Suspends Liquor Permit Processes Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections
Pune, 31st March 2024: In preparation for the Lok Sabha elections, the process related to permits, updates, transfers, and renewals for the sale of domestic and foreign liquor in the Pune district has been suspended until the conclusion of the code of conduct. Additionally, a dry day has been announced, starting 48 hours before polling and continuing until the end of the voting period.
District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase has issued directives to this effect. For the Baramati Lok Sabha Constituency, voting is scheduled for May 7, making May 5 a dry day from 6 pm until the completion of polling on May 7.
Similarly, polling for the Pune, Shirur, and Maval Lok Sabha constituencies is slated for May 13. Consequently, a dry day will be observed from 6 pm on May 11 until the conclusion of polling on May 13.
The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4. As a result, liquor shops, pubs, and liquor-related establishments will remain closed throughout the day on June 4. Furthermore, there will be restrictions on the transportation of liquor during this period.
In light of maintaining law and order during the Code of Conduct period, new licenses, renewals, and repairs for the sale of liquor have been halted. Only existing license holders are permitted to manufacture liquor, with transportation prohibited until further notice. These measures aim to ensure a smooth and orderly electoral process in the Pune district.
