October Holidays 2025: Schools and Colleges Closure Dates Across India

New Delhi, 30th September 2025: With Navratri and Dussehra around the corner, schools and colleges across India are announcing holidays.

This year, Dussehra falls on October 2, which coincides with Gandhi Jayanti. Most states have declared closures on October 1 and 2, while some have extended holidays until October 6. States including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Telangana have confirmed school closures.

Festive fervor is visible everywhere as students enjoy time off and many migrant workers return home to celebrate with their families. However, parents are often unclear about exact holiday schedules. Below is the list of state-wise school closures starting October 1:

Uttar Pradesh: Schools will be closed on October 1 and 2 for Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti.

Bihar: Most districts will observe holidays from September 27 to October 2, with some extending until October 5.

Delhi: Government schools will be closed from September 29 to October 1, reopening on October 3. Private schools may follow different schedules.

Jharkhand: Government schools will remain closed from September 27 to October 2, with some schools extending until October 5.

Odisha: Schools will be closed from September 29 to October 2, resuming on October 3.

West Bengal: Due to Durga Puja, schools have been closed since September 24, with holidays continuing until October 6.

Telangana: Schools have been closed since September 21, with classes expected to resume on October 3.

Parents are advised to check with their respective schools, especially private institutions, as holiday schedules may vary.
