Now Maharashtra Govt Changes Aurangabad’s Name To Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv

Mumbai, 16th July 2022: The proposal to rename Aurangabad city as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad city as Dharashiv was approved in the Maharashtra cabinet meeting held today. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde presided over the meeting.
Minutes of the Cabinet meeting on 29 June 2022 approving the nomination proposal were placed before the newly constituted Cabinet for approval. It was directed that both these proposals should be resubmitted to the Cabinet for approval.
Accordingly, these proposals were re-introduced in today’s cabinet meeting. Both these proposals were approved by the cabinet. This proposal will be sent to the central government and after that the name of the division, district, taluka as well as the municipal corporation and municipality will be changed accordingly. Proceedings in this regard will be done separately by the Revenue and Forest Department as well as the Urban Development Department as per Acts.
In the last cabinet meeting of the previous Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the names were changed by the new CM said that the earlier order was illegal. Hence, the proposals were again submitted for name change. Earlier, Aurangabad’s name was changed to Sambhajinagar.
