New Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais Takes Oath And Assumes Office

Mumbai, 18th February 2023: Ramesh Bais, the new governor of Maharashtra, took the oath of office in Marathi today. Bais is the 20th Governor of Maharashtra. Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Sanjay V. Gangapurwala administered the oath of office to Bais as Governor. On this occasion, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Rahul Narvekar, Tourism Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, and other dignitaries were present.

After Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s resignation was accepted, Ramesh Bais was appointed as the new Governor of Maharashtra. Rashtrapati Bhavan transferred 13 governors of the country. Earlier, Ramesh Bais was the Governor of Jharkhand. Before that, he also held the post of Governor of Tripura state.

Born on 2nd August 1947, Ramesh Bais served as Minister of State during the Vajpayee government. Ramesh Bais has been a seven-time Member of Parliament. He started his political career as a BJP worker. He also served as MLA of Madhya Pradesh before the bifurcation of Chhattisgarh from Madhya Pradesh. He is known as a leader who has never lost a single election.

Ramesh Bais has represented the Raipur constituency in Chhattisgarh. He was first elected to Raipur Municipal Corporation in 1978. After that, the graph of his political career continued to climb. He was a member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1980 to 1984. In 1989, he first became an MP from the Raipur Lok Sabha constituency of the then-united Madhya Pradesh (now Chhattisgarh). After that, he represented the Lok Sabha seven consecutive times. He is considered close to LK Advani. That is why his ticket was cut in the 2019 elections, his supporters say.

He also has the experience of Union Ministership of the Government of India. Ramesh Bais has not lost any election so far. Despite consecutive wins, his ticket was cut in 2019. According to Bais’s supporters, he was sidelined from the mainstream. But as soon as the 2019 Lok Sabha elections were over, he was appointed as the Governor of Tripura State. Along with LK Advani, he also had a good relationship with Sushma Swaraj. Sushma Swaraj considers Ramesh Bais as her brother.
