Mumbai: 26-Year-Old Dies During Police Recruitment Process

Mumbai, 18th February 2023: A 26-year-old candidate died in the ongoing police recruitment process in Mumbai on Friday. The candidate has been identified as Ganesh Ugle. He collapsed after completing the 1,600m running test. When he was taken to the hospital, the doctor declared him dead. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report, police said. The Bandra-Kurla complex police have registered an accidental death in this case, and the police are conducting further investigations.

A native of Washim district, Ugle, along with other youths, participated in the constable recruitment process of the Mumbai Police Force. On Friday morning, he entered the Kalina University grounds for testing. He completed the 1,600m test run and collapsed on the ground shortly after crossing the finish line. The medical team present for the recruitment process immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment. But he was declared dead before being admitted there.

According to the police, Ugle and his cousin had applied for the post of police constable driver in the Mumbai Police Force. Both of them had come to Mumbai on Thursday. After spending the night in tents, they got up on Friday morning and participated in the recruitment process. At around 11 in the morning, Ugle participated in the 1600-meter run test. He completed the test and collapsed as he crossed the finish line. The medical team examined Ugle and immediately shifted him to VN Santacruz for treatment. There the doctors checked him and declared him dead. This incident shocked everyone. In this case, the Bandra-Kurla complex police registered an accidental death.

Both participated in the recruitment with the dream of joining the police force. However, Ugle’s death in the morning after being together on Thursday night shocked the family, including the cousin. When the police questioned Ugle’s cousin, he did not report any discomfort. The police have informed the family of the deceased, and further investigation is underway.
