Maharashtra Governor Remains Silent At Delhi Event, Sparks Speculations

Delhi, 7th August 2022: Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s controversial statement regarding ‘Marathi Manus’ has sparked controversy. Allegedly, the party has instructed him to stay silent now. This speculation got air when Koshyari turned his back on seeing the media during an event in Delhi. Although Koshyari has apologized for his statement, the party continues to be alert. Notably, after overthrowing the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition government in Maharashtra, the BJP is taking each step cautiously.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari is currently in Delhi. He started the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign in Maharashtra Sadan. According to Maharashtra Times, during this time he kept his distance from the media. Koshyari stated that he would not talk, asking the media to talk to the Chief Minister instead. Koshyari also said that the Governor has been ordered not to speak. Speculations have arisen from this statement that the party has ordered him to maintain silence. However, with the Governor being a constitutional post, the question arises as to whether anyone can dissuade him from speaking.

Making a controversial statement at an event in Mumbai, Koshyari had said that Mumbai would not be the financial capital if Gujaratis and Marwaris left. After his statement, there was a wave of anger in the entire state, putting the BJP in a dilemma. BJP and Eknath Shinde group leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, also distanced themselves from Governor’s remarks. In his apology, the Governor said that his statement was distorted.
