Integral Coach Factory Rolls Out 80,000th Coach, Marks Major Production Milestone

Chennai, 3rd February 2026: Integral Coach Factory (ICF) has rolled out its 80,000th railway coach, marking a major production milestone since the unit began operations in 1955, according to an official statement.

The milestone coach is part of the Amrit Bharat Coach series. ICF is the largest coach-producing factory in the world and a key production unit of Indian Railways, supplying rolling stock for passenger services across the network.

Over the decades, ICF has expanded its manufacturing portfolio beyond conventional passenger coaches to include Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) and Diesel Multiple Unit (DEMU) trains, air-conditioned EMUs, high-speed accident relief trains, luxury tourist coaches such as Maharaja’s Express and Golden Chariot, Vistadome coaches, and metro coaches for Kolkata Metro.

ICF is currently engaged in the production of Vande Bharat trainsets and is also developing new rolling stock variants, including Amrit Bharat coaches, Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, and Vande Bharat sleeper trainsets, as part of Indian Railways’ ongoing modernisation programme.

The factory has also supplied railway coaches to countries in Asia and Africa, marking its presence in international markets.

According to the statement, ICF continues to focus on passenger amenities, coach design, manufacturing quality, and the adoption of new technologies. The unit has received multiple recognitions related to quality standards, environmental practices, and social responsibility.

U. Subba Rao, General Manager, ICF, acknowledged the contribution of employees across generations and said the production milestone reflects the factory’s long-standing role in India’s railway manufacturing ecosystem.
