Indian Railways Ferries Over 1.5 Crore Passengers During Festive Season; Number Expected to Cross 2.5 Crore by End of Period
New Delhi, 25th October 2025: Indian Railways has transported more than 1.5 crore passengers so far during the ongoing festive season, with the number expected to exceed 2.5 crore by the end of the period.
To ensure smooth crowd management, 30 major stations in Bihar and adjoining areas of Uttar Pradesh have been equipped with large holding areas to manage passenger flow.
In recent years, Indian Railways has undertaken significant infrastructure expansion. The number of special trains, which previously stood at a few hundred, has now reached a record high. Additionally, track construction has seen a major boost, increasing from 400–600 km per year a decade ago to more than 4,000 km per year at present.
Railway personnel are working round the clock to assist passengers and maintain order to ensure safe and comfortable travel during the festive rush.
With Chhath Puja celebrations underway, Indian Railways has further strengthened its arrangements to handle the surge in passenger movement.
At every railway station, a dedicated holding area has been created for passengers’ convenience, supported by CCTV surveillance for round-the-clock safety monitoring. Extra ticket counters and enhanced facilities have been set up across major stations in Bihar to improve passenger comfort and ensure efficient crowd management.
