Increase In Industrial Electricity Consumption And Industrial Consumers In Maharashtra

Mumbai, 15th December 2022: The power consumption of the industrial sector in Maharashtra has increased to 4,101 million units from the monthly average of 3,833 million units in the last financial year. The number of industrial electricity consumers in the state has increased, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Singhal said yesterday (14th December).

He said that in the financial year 2021-22, high-pressure industrial consumers consumed 39,397 million units, while low-pressure industrial consumers consumed 6,606 million units of electricity. The total industrial electricity consumption was 46,003.26 million units. Therefore, the average monthly industrial electricity consumption in the last financial year was 3,833 million units.

In the current financial year 2022-23, there has been an increase in industrial electricity consumption in the state. In this financial year, during the eight months from April to November, 32,808 million units of electricity have been sold to industrial consumers, and this electricity consumption is an average of 4,101 million units per month.

He further informed that the number of electricity consumers taking new industrial connections in the state has also increased. In the financial year 2021-22, the total high-pressure industrial electricity consumers in the state were 14,885. Their number has increased to 15,078 in this financial year till November.

The number of low-pressure industrial electricity consumers has also increased from 3,81,272 to 3,83,272. At the end of November, the total number of industrial electricity consumers in the state increased to 3,98,350.

Various concessions are offered in electricity tariffs to industrial electricity consumers in the state. Discounts, like a 15 per cent load factor discount on electricity consumption, peak electricity consumption discount, discount if the electricity bill is paid early, savings on transmission size for ultra-high pressure customers, and discount on tariff if electricity is used after 10.00 pm.

Taking advantage of all such concessions, high-pressure industrial consumers are charged an average rate of Rs five per unit. Apart from this, the industries in Vidarbha, Marathwada, and North Maharashtra, as well as D and D Plus industrial sectors are given concession in electricity tariff, he explained further.
