Eknath Shinde Faction Wins Battle for Shiv Sena Name and Symbol: Election Commission Rules in Their Favor

Mumbai, 17th February 2023: In a major development in Maharashtra’s political arena, the Election Commission has granted the Eknath Shinde faction the right to use the name and symbol of the Shiv Sena, a party founded by Bal Thackeray in 1966. The decision was made following a dispute between Shinde’s faction and Uddhav Thackeray’s faction over the use of the name and symbol in upcoming elections.

The commission ruled in favor of Shinde’s faction, allowing them to retain the name and bow and arrow symbol, which is likely to have significant political implications in Maharashtra, where the Shiv Sena is a major political force. The commission held that the name and symbol belong to the original party and that granting the use of the name and symbol to one faction would cause confusion among voters.
