Delhi Protest: AISA President Neha Bora Calls for 4th October March over Women’s Safety, SIR and CEC Row
New Delhi, 4th October 2026: A citizens’ march from India Gate to Jantar Mantar has been called for Sunday, 4th October, a day after All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora and other protesters were detained during a demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The march is scheduled to begin at 3 pm from India Gate and proceed towards Jantar Mantar. The call comes amid protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and allegations raised by protesters regarding the conduct of the Delhi Police during the demonstrations.
In a social media post announcing Sunday’s march, Bora referred to her detention during Saturday’s protest and alleged that women protesters and journalists were subjected to inappropriate treatment by police personnel.
In a video accompanying the announcement, Bora called out to the uniformed officers of the Delhi Police saying, “After beating women, groping women journalists, will you save Gyanesh Kumar?” She also said the march would assert the right to protest and freedom of expression, while reiterating the demand for Kumar’s resignation.
The 3rd October demonstration was the second consecutive day of protests against the CEC. Police detained around 160 protesters on Saturday, including Bora, activist Yogendra Yadav and senior advocate Prashant Bhushan.
The previous day, more than 1,000 protesters were detained across Delhi during demonstrations demanding Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise. Police said the protests had not been granted permission and prohibitory restrictions were in place.
At least three FIRs were also registered in connection with the 2nd October demonstrations, with cases lodged at Parliament Street and Connaught Place police stations.
Sunday’s march is being called around demands concerning the right to protest, women’s safety during demonstrations and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The march will begin at 3 pm on 4th October from India Gate to Jantar Mantar.
