Delhi High Court Dismisses Uddhav Thackeray’s Petition Challenging Election Commission’s Decision

Mumbai, 15th November 2022: Former CM Uddhav Thackeray’s petition against the decision of the Election Commission has been dismissed by the Delhi High Court. Thackeray challenged the decision of the Election Commission under which Shiv Sena’s name, election symbol bow, and arrow were frozen.
The High Court has said that the Election Commission should complete the work of allotting the symbol and party at the earliest.
Uddhav Thackeray had said in his petition that he has been running the party for 30 years. But due to the order of the Election Commission, he is not able to use his father’s given name and election symbol. He had said that due to this decision of the Election Commission, the political activities of the party have come to a halt. After appearing in court, Uddhav’s lawyer had said that the Election Commission could not freeze the mark till the matter was made.
After the dispute between the Shinde faction and the Thackeray faction, the Election Commission said that till the final decision is taken, no faction will be able to use Shiv Sena’s name and election symbol bow and arrow. After this, the by-election was to be held in Andheri East. For this, the Election Commission had sought three options each from both factions. In the end, keeping in mind the norms, the Election Commission had given new names and election symbols to both factions.
Uddhav Thackeray was given a flaming torch and Eknath Shinde’s faction was given a shield and sword mark. Since the political turmoil in Maharashtra, there has been a situation of confrontation between the Shinde and Uddhav factions.
