Congress Foundation Day: Leaders Rally for Democracy’s Survival in Nagpur Mega Event; Kharge Slams Modi Government

Mumbai, 28th December 2023: On the 139th foundation day of the Congress, a significant public meeting was convened at ‘Bharat Jodo’ Maidan, Nagpur, where prominent leaders voiced concerns over the current challenges to democracy and urged for collective action to safeguard constitutional values.

Indian National Congress President MP Mallikarjun Kharge, INC Former President MP Rahul Gandhi, and other Congress leaders addressed the gathering, highlighting the pressing issues facing the nation. The leaders called for unity against the threats posed by inflation, unemployment, and the erosion of democratic principles.

Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the need to teach a lesson to those who undermine democracy and urged support for a government rooted in secular ideas. He criticized the Modi government for suspending opposition MPs who questioned parliamentary proceedings, calling it a mockery of democracy.

Rahul Gandhi, in his address, expressed concern over the Modi government’s control over various institutions, including the media, election commission, and courts. He highlighted the unfulfilled promises of job creation and the alarming rise in unemployment rates. Rahul Gandhi pledged that, if Congress comes to power, it will conduct a caste-wise census and prioritize employment for the youth.

Maharashtra State President Nana Patole appealed to the people of Vidarbha and Maharashtra to support Rahul Gandhi, drawing parallels with the historical support Indiraji Gandhi received from the region. He stressed the importance of supporting the ‘INDIA Aghadi to ensure a strong and stable government for the country and the state.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan underscored the sacrifices made by the Congress since independence and urged against letting those sacrifices go in vain. He criticized the BJP government for diverting attention from critical issues and emphasized the need for a caste-wise census and removal of the 50 per cent reservation limit.

The event witnessed the participation of various Congress leaders, including All India Congress Committee General Secretary MP KC Venugopal, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and others. The leaders collectively called for preserving the country’s democracy and constitution, rallying under the banner of ‘Win INDIA Aghadi’ for a robust and stable government.
