CBI Arrests Manish Sisodia in Connection with Alleged Excise Policy Scam in Delhi

New Delhi, 26th February 2023: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of GNCTD, Delhi, in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of GNCTD.

Sisodia and 14 others have been named in a case related to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the Excise Policy for the year 2021-22 and extending post-tender benefits to private individuals. The CBI had filed a chargesheet on 25th November 2022 against the then CEO of a Mumbai-based private company and six others. The investigation is still ongoing.

Sisodia had been issued a notice under Section 41A of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C) to attend the investigation on 19th February 2023. However, he had requested one week’s time citing prior engagements. Consequently, he was issued a notice to attend the investigation on 26th February 2023, during which he was questioned about his alleged involvement in the case. Despite being confronted with evidence, he evaded the questions and did not cooperate with the investigation, leading to his arrest.

The arrested individuals, including Sisodia, will be produced before a designated court in Delhi. The case has attracted significant attention as Sisodia is a high-ranking official in the GNCTD government. The CBI has assured the public of its commitment to investigate and prosecute any individuals involved in such cases impartially and without prejudice.
