Maharashtra: Centre gives nod to Osmanabad’s renaming as Dharashiv, Aurangabad’s proposal under consideration

Pune, 16th February 2023: The Central Government has given a green signal to the renaming of Osmanabad to Dharashiv, while the proposal to rename Aurangabad to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Nagar is still being considered. However, the move has sparked political tension, with Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut criticising both the Modi government and the Shinde-Fadnavis state government.

In response, BJP State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that Raut should not call others hypocrites, as the proposal was presented to the cabinet without a majority.

Bawankule further mentioned that the Shinde-Fadnavis government would soon approve the proposal, and assured that proper investigation would be conducted in MLA Jitendra Awhad’s case. He also urged Raut not to question Girish Bapat’s absence from campaigning, as Bapat was their leader and was currently ill.

Meanwhile, the renaming of Osmanabad as Dharashiv is expected to have a significant impact on the region. The name change has been long awaited by the people of the region and is considered a historic moment.
