Was the Unidentified Animal at Rashtrapati Bhavan a Leopard, Cat, or Dog?
New Delhi, 10th June 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced his third term with a grand ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, attended by 8,000 guests, including foreign dignitaries, business leaders, and celebrities from the film industry.
Amidst the political spectacle, a peculiar incident caught social media’s attention: a viral video capturing what appeared to be a feline-like creature in the background as BJP MP Durga Das Uikey greeted President Droupadi Murmu during the swearing-in ceremony.
Speculation ran rampant on various platforms, with debates over whether the creature was a leopard, a domestic cat, or perhaps a dog. However, clarifications soon emerged from a senior official of the Delhi Forest and Wildlife Department, stating that the animal in question resembled a canine or feline, dispelling the notion of it being a leopard.
The sprawling President’s Estate, spanning 330 acres, is renowned for its diverse ecosystem, comprising open spaces, forests, parks, gardens, fruit orchards, and water bodies, fostering a wide array of flora and fauna.
To promote nature conservation awareness, a 75-acre nature trail has been established within the estate, showcasing managed and natural ecosystems. This trail, seamlessly integrated with Rashtrapati Bhavan’s gardens, features various habitats such as ponds, butterfly sanctuaries, orchards, and forested areas. It serves as a habitat for 136 plant species and 84 animal species, including amphibians, reptiles, and avifauna.
