Shivajinagar, 7th March 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has witnessed a substantial surge in its budget, marking a notable increase of ₹2100 crores compared to the previous fiscal year. Municipal Commissioner, Vikram Kumar, unveiled the ambitious budget of ₹11,601 crores.
Notably, a dedicated allocation of ₹550 crores has been earmarked for the newly merged villages, emphasizing the commitment to comprehensive development across the region. Addressing the pressing issue of traffic congestion, the budget allocates substantial resources for the construction of eight new flyovers, with an impressive ₹1000 crores designated for the road department.
A key highlight of the budget is the assurance that the metro project will reach completion by June-July. The commencement of work from Swargate to Katraj Metro is anticipated to provide a much-needed boost to public transportation in the city. Additionally, the allocation for 500 new buses for the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) underscores the municipality’s focus on enhancing public transit.
Progress in infrastructure projects is evident, with 40 percent completion of the riverfront development initiative and the successful conclusion of work on 10 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). Furthermore, the budget outlines plans for the implementation of a comprehensive model school scheme, envisioning 15 model schools to elevate the standard of education.
