Pune: Change Name Of Mohammadwadi To Mahadevwadi…? Shiv Sena Demands To Chief Minister
Pune, 30th September 2022: After the change of government in the state, while there is a controversy over the renaming of cities, a request has been made to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to change the name of an area in Pune as well. Nana Bhangire, the city chief of the Shinde group, has demanded that the Mohammadwadi area of Hadapsar area be renamed Mahadevwadi.
For the last several years, there has been a demand to name Aurangabad to Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv. But in reality, this decision was not made. After the Uddhav Thackeray government came to a faction, they approved the proposal to rename both the cities which had created repercussions in the politics of the state. But after coming to power, Eknath Shinde became Chief Minister, he cancelled Uddhav Thackeray’s decision and renamed Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar instead of just Sambhajinagar.
Due to this, a war of words was ignited between the two groups. While this controversy is not yet over, now there is a demand to change the name of Mohammadwadi to Mahadevwadi in Pune. Mohammadwadi area is located in the Hadapsar area, which consists of a large number of Muslims. But the citizens of this area demanded to change the name to Mahadevwadi in 1997 during the coalition government. But no government paid any attention to it.
Now that the Shinde government has come to the state, Nana Bhangire has brought forward this issue as it is said to be a government with Hindutva ideas. A letter has been written to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in this regard.
Nana Bhangire said, “Since 1997, the villagers had been demanding that the name of our village should be changed to Mahadevwadi instead of Mohammadwadi.”
Such a proposal was sent during the coalition government. But it was not accepted. Now the Eknath Shinde government has demanded that a decision be taken in this regard.
