President Donald Trump Announces PM Narendra Modi’s February Visit to the US
Mumbai, 28th January 2025: US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States in February. Trump confirmed the visit following a phone call with PM Modi, marking their first conversation since Trump began his second term on January 20.
The call took place amidst growing speculation in diplomatic circles about an early meeting between the two leaders. Trump mentioned that immigration was also discussed during their conversation, with the US leader expressing confidence that India would take appropriate action on returning illegal immigrants.
Trump’s focus on cracking down on illegal immigration was seen as a key factor in his victory, which returned him to the White House after losing to Joe Biden four years earlier.
PM Modi’s last visit to the US was in September when he attended the Quad Leaders’ Summit hosted by President Joe Biden. The summit also included the prime ministers of Australia and Japan. Modi later addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The conversation between Trump and Modi was described as productive, with both leaders focusing on strengthening the US-India relationship. They also discussed plans for Modi’s upcoming visit to the White House, emphasizing the importance of the strategic partnership between the two nations and their commitment to the Indo-Pacific Quad partnership, which India will host later this year.
