Google CEO Sundar Pichai Meets PM Modi; Says, “Look Forward To Supporting India’s G20 Presidency”
New Delhi, 19th December 2022: Today (December 19), Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and pledged his support for creating a free and open internet that benefits everyone.
Pichai tweeted, “Thank you for a great meeting today PM Narendra Modi. Inspiring to see the rapid pace of technological change under your leadership. Look forward to continuing our strong partnership and supporting India’s G20 presidency to advance an open, connected internet that works for all.”
Pichai is there to take part in the “Google for India” conference, where the business will be emphasising start-ups. Google will invest around a quarter of the $300 million it set aside for startups in companies run by women.
He said, “Given the size and technological leadership it (India) will have, it’s crucial to strike a balance and implement protections for people. You’re developing a foundation for innovation so that businesses can do so on top of legal certainty.”
He added, “It seems like a crucial point in history. India will have significant export potential. Free and connected internet will be beneficial to it, so finding the proper balance will be crucial.”
200 meetings could be held in India during the upcoming year. Delhi will host the G20 Summit in September 2023.
