First Automobile Rake Reaches Anantnag via Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link
New Delhi, 3rd October 2025: The first automobile rake dispatched by Delhi Division, Northern Railway from M/s Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s in-plant Gati Shakti Terminal (GCT) at Manesar reached Anantnag Goods Shed in the Kashmir Valley on October 3, 2025.
The auto train, carrying over 116 passenger vehicles including Brezza, Dzire, WagonR, and S-Presso, departed Manesar on October 1 and covered a distance of 850 kilometers to reach the newly opened Anantnag railway terminal.
During its journey, the rake passed over the world’s highest railway arch bridge across the Chenab River. Rail connectivity to the valley was established through the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
According to Northern Railway, goods transported to and from the Kashmir Valley since the opening of USBRL up to September 30, 2025, include:
Apples: 12,400.9 tonnes
Cement: 48,387 tonnes
Plastic goods: 1,341 tonnes
Steel: 716.1 tonnes
Railways officials said the arrival of the automobile rake marks an important step in expanding logistics operations in the Kashmir Valley.
