Delhi Protest: AISA Activists Return To Jantar Mantar Amid Tight Security

New Delhi, 3rd October 2026: All India Students’ Association (AISA) activists returned to Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Saturday, 3rd October, a day after more than 1,000 protesters were detained during demonstrations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The fresh mobilisation followed a call by AISA national president Neha Bora, who was among those detained during Friday’s protest. In a video message released later, Bora asked activists to gather at Jantar Mantar at 1 pm and continue raising concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Police deployed security personnel and placed barricades on roads leading to Jantar Mantar as activists began gathering at the protest site. Several protesters were detained as they attempted to assemble.

AISA, along with Students’ Federation of India (SFI), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and other student and political groups, had participated in Friday’s demonstration. Protesters were demanding Kumar’s resignation and raising allegations of irregularities in the electoral roll revision exercise.

Bora said the detentions would not stop the protests and called for continued mobilisation. She was reportedly detained multiple times during Friday’s demonstration.

Delhi Police had denied permission for the gathering at Jantar Mantar and imposed security restrictions across central Delhi. Around 1,000 protesters were detained during Friday’s demonstrations, according to reports.

The renewed protest comes amid ongoing political and civil society concerns over the SIR exercise. The Election Commission has maintained that the electoral roll revision process is being conducted according to established procedures.

The AISA-led mobilisation at Jantar Mantar is expected to continue as student groups seek to press their demands over the electoral roll revision and the functioning of the Election Commission.
