Congress Announces Bharat Nyay Yatra Led by Rahul Gandhi, Covering 14 States from Manipur to Mumbai
New Delhi, 27th December 2023: In a strategic move to connect with the people across the nation, the Congress party, led by Rahul Gandhi, is set to embark on the Bharat Nyay Yatra, covering a distance of 6,200 kilometres from Manipur to Mumbai. The yatra is scheduled to take place between January 14 and March 20, traversing 14 states and 85 districts.
Building on the success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi aims to engage with the youth, women, and marginalized communities during this extensive journey. The Congress party revealed that similar to the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Bharat Nyay Yatra will provide a platform for meaningful interactions with various sections of society.
Organizing Secretary KC Venugopal stated during a press conference in Delhi, “Rahul Gandhi will travel with the great experience of the first Bharat Jodo Yatra. He will travel with youth, women, and marginalized people. The yatra will cover a distance of 6,200 kilometres, and this time, it will be undertaken by bus, with leaders expected to walk parts of the route.”
The yatra is set to commence in Manipur and conclude in Mumbai, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge flagging off the journey. Passing through 14 states, including Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, the Bharat Nyay Yatra aims to resonate with diverse demographics.
Venugopal also highlighted that the decision to travel from east to west was made based on the suggestions of Congress workers, and Rahul Gandhi agreed to fulfil the wishes of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
As the yatra unfolds, its impact on the political landscape and alliances in states it traverses, particularly those currently ruled by Bharat alliance parties, will be closely observed. The journey coincides with the expected intensification of the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign, adding another layer of significance to this extensive outreach effort.
The upcoming Bharat Nyay Yatra follows the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which commenced on September 7, 2022, covering 3,970 kilometres, 12 states, and two union territories before concluding in Srinagar on January 30, 2023. The first phase of the journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir saw Rahul Gandhi walking approximately 4,000 kilometres, leaving a notable impact on Congress’ electoral performance in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh. The Yatra recorded a substantial increase in strike rate and vote share during the elections in these states.
