CBI Takes Action Against Seven In Rs 50 Lakh Bribe Case

New Delhi, 15th January 2023: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday arrested seven people, including a hawala operator and an Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) of the Indian Railways posted in Guwahati, in connection with a bribe of Rs 50 lakh. The accused have been identified as ADRM Jitendra Pal Singh, Shyamal Kumar Deb, Hariom, Yogendra Kumar Singh, Dilawar Khan, Vinod Kumar Singhal alias Mukesh, and Sanjit Ray. A senior CBI official said a case has been registered against Singh and other private persons, including contractors, in this bribery case.

The CBI said the accused entered into a conspiracy to cause undue favours to private contractors for contract agreement, preparation of measurement books, processing of account bills, early release of payments against pending bills and construction work in Northeast Frontier Railway. “Singh was earlier posted as chief engineer at New Jalpaiguri, where he was in the habit of demanding and accepting bribes from various contractors,” the official said. He said Deb was helping Singh to deliver the kickbacks through Om to hawala operator Sanjit Ray in Delhi.

The CBI laid a trap in this case and caught Rango taking a bribe of Rs 50 lakh on behalf of Singh. The CBI later nabbed Singh and others as well. The CBI has conducted searches at Singh’s multiple places, including Delhi, Narora, Guwahati, Siliguri and Aligarh, in which CBI recovered Rs 47 lakh in cash, a laptop and several incriminating documents. The CBI said that all the arrested accused would be produced in court.
