Bihar: 6 Signs Nitish Kumar Had Given To BJP Before ‘Breakup’

Patna, 9th August 2022: The ‘breakup’ of the Janata Dal (United) (JDU) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar may have been announced now, but for the last few months, the close relationship between Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav was clearly visible.

When Kumar was questioned about this, he left it as a courtesy call. However, the story cooking inside has come to the fore today and a massive change has occurred in the politics of Bihar. Coming close after 20 years, the alliance which was left in 2017 was reunited and the government of Mahagathbandhan will be formed again.

The Mahagathbandhan Government was present from 2015 to 2017 and included the Congress, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Janata Dal (United) (JDU). However, Nitish Kumar had distanced himself from the Grand Alliance and formed the government with the BJP then.

Though Kumar’s actions come as a surprise today, he had been providing indications to the BJP for a while now.

The session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly concluded in June. This time the session was very peaceful. In this, neither did Tejashwi Yadav nor did the leaders of the RJD establish any major comments in opposition to the Nitish Kumar government, though the RJD is the single largest party in Bihar.

When Lalu Prasad Yadav’s health worsened and he reached Delhi from Patna, Nitish Kumar himself looked after all the arrangements. He had also arranged for the facilities to take him to Delhi.

On Sunday, Tejashwi Yadav’s party protested against inflation. The Nitish Kumar government made multiple arrangements for this demonstration. Security was also arranged. The solid support from Kumar for this protest from behind the scenes was visible.

Tejashwi has already received Kumar’s support on the issue of the caste census. When the central government said that the caste census was not possible this time, Nitish Kumar called an all-party meeting. He had announced that caste-wise counting would take place in Bihar.

In May, Nitish Kumar attended the Iftar party organized at Tejashwi Yadav’s house. Iftar is organized in the month of Ramadan. Kumar not only attended the iftar but also came out of the house with Tejashwi. It seems he wanted to signal change to both the media and the BJP. Tejashwi Yadav also joined Nitish Kumar’s Iftar party where a similar sign was sent.

Finally, when a new corruption case was registered against Lalu Prasad Yadav, neither any JDU leader nor Chief Minister Nitish Kumar commented on this action. It was clear that Nitish Kumar did not support this action of the Centre. Lalu Prasad Yadav was in the hospital at that time after getting bail in another case.
