Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Whereabouts Unknown Amidst ED Probe Drama
New Delhi, 30th January 2024: Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s whereabouts remain unknown as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) intensifies its investigation into a money laundering case. Official sources claim that Soren has been “missing” for the past 24 hours, raising concerns about his safety and the ongoing probe.
Contrary to official sources, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Soren’s party, asserts that he is in contact with them and safe. The ED officials, seeking to question Soren in connection with the money laundering case, are facing challenges as there is no concrete information about his whereabouts. The chartered plane he used from Ranchi to Delhi is parked at Delhi airport, and the phones of his staff are reportedly switched off.
In the pursuit of their investigation, the ED has seized Soren’s BMW in Delhi. Despite questioning his driver, authorities are unable to determine Soren’s location. Sources reveal that some documents and cash recoveries have been made as part of the investigation.
Amidst the unfolding drama, the BJP’s Jharkhand unit alleges that Soren is “absconding” and urges the Governor to take note. The JMM and Congress, on the other hand, argue that the ED’s actions are politically motivated. Rallies in support of Soren have been organized, with the ruling alliance terming the ED’s approach as an attempt to destabilize the government.
The ruling JMM-led alliance instructs all MLAs to remain in Jharkhand for a crucial meeting on Tuesday. Amidst speculations, the BJP alleges plans to appoint Soren’s wife, Kalpana, as the Chief Minister. Soren is under investigation for his alleged involvement in a land ownership change racket in Jharkhand, with the ED making 14 arrests so far.
The JMM questions the timing of the fresh summons by the ED and criticizes the agency’s approach. Accusing the ED of being influenced by the BJP, the party raises concerns about the impact on State Governments and questions the role of institutions like the ED in matters with political implications.
