Culpable Homicide Case Should Be Registered Against Tanaji Sawant: Sushma Andhare
Pune, 4th October 2023: In a distressing turn of events, 24 civilians have lost their lives in a hospital in Nanded, prompting a demand for accountability from Shiv Sena (Thackeray group) deputy leader Sushma Andhare.
During a press conference held in Pune, Andhare squarely placed the blame on the state government and called for the filing of a culpable homicide case against Health Minister Tanaji Sawant.
Andhare asserted that innocent citizens perished due to inadequate treatment in Nanded’s hospitals. He criticized the state of Maharashtra’s health system, describing it as being on the brink of collapse for the past three days. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis were in Delhi to address issues within the state government.
Furthermore, Andhare pointed out that Health Minister Tanaji Sawant had openly stated that 150 meetings were conducted to destabilize the Mahavikas Aghadi government. However, revelations about staff shortages and insufficient medicine supplies within the state’s health department emerged after the Nanded incident. Andhare emphasized that if those who held 150 meetings to undermine the government had convened even one meeting to address the healthcare crisis, innocent lives could have been spared. Consequently, he insisted on filing a culpable homicide case against Health Minister Tanaji Sawant.
Andhare drew attention to the commendable efforts of then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray during the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing that Thackeray effectively managed the healthcare system while serving as Chief Minister. She praised the then Health Minister Rajesh Tope for his contributions, which received international recognition. Andhare reminded the present Chief Minister and Health Minister of these accomplishments and urged them to prioritize healthcare.
