Maharashtra Kesari Wrestling Tournament Makes Historic Move To Dharashiv District In Marathwada
Dharashiv, 25th September 2023: The iconic Maharashtra Kesari Wrestling Tournament is set to break new ground this year by relocating to the Marathwada region, specifically Dharashiv district. This marks the first time the district will host the prestigious event, offering a unique spectacle for wrestling fans and competitors alike.
Last year, the tournament was held in Pune, a prominent urban center. This year, however, the organizers have opted to expand the event’s reach by bringing it to Marathwada. The annual competition, now in its 65th edition, is renowned for its rich wrestling heritage and high-caliber participants.
Scheduled from November 1 to November 5, the tournament is expected to attract around 900 skilled wrestlers from various parts of Maharashtra. Organizational duties for this landmark event have been assigned to the Adarsh Shikshan Prasarak Mandal and Osmanabad Talim Sangh.
The Tuljabhavani Sports Complex in Dharashiv will serve as the venue for the competition. A total of 45 district teams will participate, with 900 wrestlers competing either on soil or mats. The event will feature 20 different weight categories, offering a wide array of wrestling challenges.
The tournament will offer substantial prizes, totaling approximately Rs. 2 crores. The top prize includes a prestigious silver mace and a brand-new Scorpio N car worth Rs. 30 lakh. The second prize will be a Mahindra tractor, while the first runner-up in each weight category will receive a bullet and a cash prize.
The decision to host the tournament in Dharashiv has generated significant excitement among organizers and local communities, reflecting the sport’s growing popularity in the region.
