Wrong To Felicitate Those Who Raped Bilkis Bano: Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, 25th August 2022: Devendra Fadnavis expressed his strong opinion, regarding the felicitation of the guilty in the Bilkis Bano case, in the Legislative Council on Tuesday.

11 individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of Bilkis Bano. After serving 14 years of sentence, the Gujarat government pardoned the rest of the sentence and released the accused from prison on August 15, after which they were felicitated and given sweets.

A woman was raped twice in Bhandara-Gondia recently. Incidents of violence against women were discussed in the Legislative Council along with this case. The issue of honouring the accused who raped Bilkis Bano was raised.

Responding to it, Fadnavis said, “These criminals had served 14 years in prison. The Gujarat government decided on the Supreme Court order, and these criminals were released. But, criminals are criminals. Their actions cannot be justified. It is wrong to do that.”
