Pune: State Government Clears Three Transfer of Key Land Parcels for PMC’s Riverfront Development Project
Pune, 15th May 2026: The Maharashtra government on Thursday cleared the transfer of over 52,000 sq m of land along the Mula-Mutha river to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), a move expected to accelerate the civic body’s ambitious riverfront development (RFD) project.
The decision was taken during a state cabinet meeting and involves the transfer of three plots situated at key locations along the river stretch.
The land parcels include an 11,015 sq m plot between Sangamwadi Bridge and Bund Garden Bridge, a 34,128 sq m parcel at the Mundhwa Botanical Garden, and another 7,700 sq m plot in Mundhwa belonging to the Women and Child Welfare Department.
PMC officials said the additional land would help in executing pending components of the riverfront development project and improve connectivity and public infrastructure along the riverbanks.
Standing Committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the approvals would help speed up the implementation of the project. He added that the standing committee had also approved a proposal moved by corporator Dada Kodre to extend the riverfront development project from Mundhwa to Manjari.
In another decision, the standing committee approved allocation of land near the PMPML bus depot for the Balewadi garbage transfer station. The demand for additional land had gained momentum after a recent fire incident at the facility, following which local representatives and activists raised concerns over inadequate waste-handling infrastructure.
