
Dinesh Waghmare Assumes Charge as State Election Commissioner
Mumbai, 28th January 2025: Former Additional Chief Secretary of the state, Dinesh Waghmare, took charge as the State Election Commissioner today. The Secretary of the State Election Commission, Suresh Kakani, welcomed him.
The Governor has appointed Waghmare as the State Election Commissioner for five years. The notification regarding this appointment was issued on January 20, 2025. Accordingly, he assumed office today as the seventh State Election Commissioner of Maharashtra.
Waghmare holds a B.Tech in Electronics Engineering (1987), an M.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur (1989), and an MSc in “Development and Project Planning” from the UK (2007).
He is a 1994 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who took voluntary retirement from the post of Additional Chief Secretary of the Medical Education Department.
Began his career as Assistant District Magistrate in Ratnagiri.
Served as the CEO of the Zilla Parishad in Washim and Yavatmal.
Held positions as the District Collector of Buldhana and Chairman of the Nagpur Improvement Trust.
Worked as Managing Director and Member Secretary of various government corporations and as Commissioner of Navi Mumbai and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations.
Served as Divisional Commissioner of Amravati.
Held key roles in Medical Education, Social Justice, Energy, and Home Departments.
