BJP-NCP Dispute Over Vidhan Sabha Seats in Pimpri Chinchwad Sparks Political Tension
Pimpri Chinchwad, June 12th, 2024: A potential dispute is brewing within the Mahayuti alliance in the Pimpri Chinchwad cities, involving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena. Ajit Gavhane, the City President of Ajit Pawar’s NCP, asserts the right to contest in Chinchwad and Bhosari Vidhan Sabha Constituencies. However, BJP City President Shankar Jagtap contends that these constituencies already have BJP MLAs, thus the candidates will be from the BJP. As the upcoming Vidhan Sabha Elections approach, a contest between Ajit Pawar’s NCP and the BJP looms large.
The Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha elections are scheduled for the coming months. The state is currently governed by the Mahayuti government. The recently concluded Lok Sabha elections witnessed the Mahayuti fighting together. It is speculated that the upcoming elections will also be contested unitedly within the alliance. Amidst this, Ajit Pawar-led NCP City President Gavhane is staking a claim on Bhosari and Chinchwad Vidhan Sabha constituencies. He also mentioned that he would discuss the matter with senior officials within the NCP, affirming their claims on these constituencies. Ajit Gavhane himself intends to contest from the Bhosari Vidhan Sabha constituency.
On the other hand, BJP city president Shankar Jagtap, in response to Gavhane’s claims, also stakes a claim on Bhosari and Chinchwad. He argues that these areas already have sitting BJP MLAs, hence the BJP will field candidates there. Not stopping at this, Jagtap also asserts stakes on the Pimpri Vidhan Sabha constituency, a stronghold of the NCP. Jagtap assures that if there are any disagreements, they will be resolved by senior officials within the Mahayuti. It is rumoured that Jagtap will contest from Chinchwad. The decisions made within the Mahayuti alliance are garnering significant attention.
Speculation Rises Over Jagtap Family’s Power Struggle
Shankar Jagtap further revealed that he is preparing for the Chinchwad Vidhan Sabha constituency. His sister-in-law, Ashwini Jagtap, is the current MLA of Chinchwad. It will be intriguing to see who receives the nomination ticket from the Jagtap family in Chinchwad. Following the demise of the former MLA, late Laxman Jagtap, his wife contested and emerged victorious in the Chinchwad by-elections last year. However, Shankar Jagtap’s claim on Chinchwad also fuels speculation of a potential dispute within the Jagtap family.
