Royal Victory Sweep: Chhatrapati Udayanraje Bhosale Secures Satara, Chhatrapati Shahu Revives Congress in Kolhapur

Satara, 5th May 2024: In the recent Lok Sabha elections, voters in Kolhapur and Satara rallied behind their royal candidates. Chhatrapati Shahu, a direct descendant of the esteemed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, secured victory in Kolhapur, defeating Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Mandlik. This marked a significant milestone for the Congress, as it reclaimed the seat after a 25-year hiatus dominated by the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Expressing gratitude for his win, the 76-year-old royal acknowledged the collective effort of the electorate, stating, “While I stood as the candidate, it was the tireless work of the common people that secured this victory. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all who supported me.”

In Satara, BJP’s nominee and another descendent of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Chhatrapati Udayanraje Bhosale emerged victorious, unseating NCP’s Shashikant Shinde. In a closely contested battle, Shinde initially led in the early rounds of counting. However, Udayanraje ultimately clinched victory by a significant margin of 31,217 votes after the 16th round of counting, marking BJP’s inaugural triumph in the constituency.

Udayanraje’s decision to contest on a BJP ticket for the 2024 LS polls underscored his commitment to the party’s ideology and vision.
