Yogi Adityanath: New India Will Retaliate Firmly Against Pahalgam Terror Attack

Lucknow, 26th April 2025: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday vowed that the ‘new India’ would respond decisively to the Pahalgam terror attack, delivering a message the perpetrators would clearly understand.

Addressing a rally in Lakhimpur Kheri, Adityanath emphasized that terrorism and anarchy have no place in modern Indian society, underlining the nation’s unwavering zero-tolerance stance toward such threats.

“New India does not provoke others, but if provoked, it will not hold back,” he said. Extending condolences to the bereaved families, Adityanath reiterated that the Centre’s approach, rooted in security, service, development, and the welfare of the poor, is built on a commitment to protect every citizen. “If anyone tries to disrupt security, New India will respond appropriately, in a language they understand,” he declared, as quoted by ANI.

Earlier in the day, Adityanath also reviewed the channelisation work of the Sharda River in Lakhimpur Kheri. He visited the family of Shubham Dwivedi, a Kanpur resident who was among the victims of the Pahalgam attack, to personally offer his condolences. Dwivedi, recently married, lost his life during the attack, which left 26 people dead—including one Nepali national—and several others injured.

Describing the assault as cowardly, Adityanath stressed that terrorism is gasping for breath and such actions will not be tolerated in India. He expressed strong confidence that the Centre would take firm measures to root out terrorism, noting that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had already inspected the affected areas and was spearheading the response efforts.

Following the attack, the Union government has taken significant steps to pressure Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, cancelling visas issued to Pakistani nationals, and shutting down the Attari Integrated Check Post at the India-Pakistan border. These measures, decided earlier this week, are aimed at compelling Pakistan to act against cross-border terrorism.
