Yavatmal Police Registers FIR Against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut for Sedition
Yavatmal, 12th December 2023: In a significant development, the Yavatmal police have initiated legal proceedings against Shiv Sena (UBT) Member of Parliament, Sanjay Raut, on charges of sedition and other offences. The case stems from an alleged objectionable article against Prime Minister Narendra Modi published in the party’s mouthpiece, ‘Saamana.’ The FIR was filed on Monday at Umarkhed Police Station based on a complaint by Nitin Bhutada, the Yavatmal district coordinator for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The legal action follows a formal complaint lodged by Nitin Bhutada, accusing MP Sanjay Raut, who also serves as the executive editor of ‘Saamana,’ of writing an objectionable article targeting Prime Minister Modi. The contentious article, as claimed by Bhutada, was published on December 10 in the party’s official publication.
The FIR against Sanjay Raut has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 124 (A) (Sedition), 153 (A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.) and 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes).
“We have registered the case as per the complaint and will conduct a probe into it,” stated a senior official from the Umarkhed Police Station, emphasizing the commitment to a thorough investigation.
Sanjay Raut, known for his vocal stance on political matters, is yet to release an official statement on the FIR. The unfolding events will be closely monitored as the investigation progresses.
