Will Reach Chennai From Bengaluru In Two Hours: Nitin Gadkari
Chennai, 6th January 2023: The road journey between Bengaluru and Chennai, the state capitals of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, will be reduced to about two hours due to the new expressway. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that most of the expressway has already been built, and it will be opened for the public by March next year.
The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is being built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for Rs 17,000 crore and will cover a distance of 285.3 km between the two cities. It is part of NHAI’s upcoming projects in Karnataka, covering a distance of 8,005 km and worth Rs two lakh crore.
The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will have four lanes with separate service lanes on either side. On this, Nitin Gadkari said, “By making this road, we will reduce the logistics cost. The construction work of 231 km is already going on. We want to complete it by March 2024.” The expressway will be the first major road network between two major cities of the southern states.
The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will have a speed limit of 120 kmph for light vehicles. It will reduce the distance between the two cities by about 40 km and reduce the travel time to just two hours and 15 minutes. Currently, it takes about seven hours to travel between Bengaluru and Chennai via NH48.
