Unidentified Assailants Kill Trinamool Congress Leader Babla Sarkar in West Bengal
Kolkata, 2nd January 2025: Trinamool Congress councillor Dulal Sarkar, widely known as Babla, was fatally shot by unidentified assailants in Malda district, West Bengal, on Thursday morning, according to police reports.
The attackers, riding a motorcycle, fired multiple shots at Sarkar’s head from close range in the Jhaljhalia More area. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries. A senior police officer confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the killing.
West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee expressed her grief over the loss of Sarkar, who was a dedicated party member since its inception.
In a message shared on X, she said, “Babla Sarkar, my close associate and a beloved leader, was murdered today. He and his wife, Chaitali Sarkar, have been tireless workers for the Trinamool Congress since its early days. Babla also served as an elected councillor.”
She added, “I am deeply shocked and saddened. Words fail to convey my condolences to the grieving family. May God give Chaitali the strength to endure this loss and continue the fight.”
