Uddhav Thackeray Predicts Mid-Term Elections, Asks Party Leaders To Be Ready
Mumbai, 6th November 2022: Uddhav Thackeray has predicted mid-term elections in Maharashtra and has asked party workers to start preparations. Uddhav said this during a meeting of office bearers at the party headquarters ‘Sena Bhawan’ on Saturday. Uddhav said the political upheaval in Maharashtra is indicating that the assembly elections may be held in the state before 2024.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief spokesperson Arvind Sawant told reporters about the meeting that Uddhav Thackeray has predicted early mid-term assembly elections in the state and asked workers to prepare. Sawant said mid-term elections are inevitable as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, announced projects worth Rs two lakh crore for Maharashtra.
“Just as voters in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat are being lured with packages and announcements, the PM’s announcement is also an indication that elections will be held soon in Maharashtra,” the South Mumbai MP said. But there was no clarity on the details of the projects the Prime Minister was talking about.
Significantly, the term of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is going to end in 2024. The Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena is demanding that party MLAs who rebelled against Eknath Shinde resign and face the voters afresh.
On the other hand, the Thackeray faction has accused the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government, which came to power in June, of letting several big projects go to Gujarat. These include the Rs 1.54 lakh crore Vedanta Foxconn semiconductor chip manufacturing project and the Rs 22,000 crore Tata-Airbus C-295 military transport aircraft project.
