Uddhav Thackeray Meets Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur After Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion
Nagpur, 18th December 2024: In a surprising development, just two days after the Maharashtra Cabinet expansion, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur on Tuesday.
Thackeray, accompanied by party legislators Aaditya Thackeray, Anil Parab, Varun Desai, and others, arrived in Nagpur to attend the ongoing winter session of the state legislature.
This marked the first meeting between the two leaders since the formation of the new government. Thackeray, a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, reportedly visited Fadnavis to offer congratulations on his reappointment as Chief Minister.
Speaking at the meeting, Thackeray expressed his hopes for normal political proceedings in Maharashtra. “I did not win the election, but those who did form the government. We expect decisions in the best interest of Maharashtra,” he said. He added with a smile that they would continue to question the ruling party about how they won the election.
Aaditya Thackeray, the son of Uddhav Thackeray and an MLA from Worli, described the meeting as a “step forward.” He emphasized that both the ruling party and the opposition should display political maturity to benefit the country and the state.
Earlier, Uddhav Thackeray called for the use of ballot papers in elections, suggesting that the Centre’s push for simultaneous polls was a distraction from other pressing issues. “The ‘One Nation, One Election’ issue should come later. First, we need to focus on the election of the Election Commissioner. If we can elect the President, why not the Election Commissioner? If people doubt EVMs, those concerns need to be addressed. Let’s use ballot papers once. If the same majority is achieved, no one will question it again,” Thackeray stated.
