Trinamool Councillor Survives Murder Attempt in Kolkata Due to Malfunctioning Gun

Kolkata, 16th November 2024: A Trinamool councillor narrowly escaped a murder attempt in Kolkata’s Kasba area last night, thanks to a malfunctioning gun. CCTV footage captured the dramatic moment outside the councillor’s residence.

Sushanta Ghosh, the councillor for Ward 108 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, was seated outside his house when two assailants arrived on a scooter. One of the attackers attempted to shoot him twice, but the gun failed to fire.

Realizing the danger, Ghosh charged at the shooter, who then attempted to flee on his accomplice’s scooter. However, he lost control and fell, leading to a foot chase. The attacker was eventually caught, beaten, and forced to confess on camera about the plot. In a video, he stated, “I wasn’t paid, just given a photo and told to kill him.”

Police later revealed that the shooters were brought in from Bihar, and the motive behind the attack is believed to be linked to local rivalries.

Ghosh expressed surprise at the attempt on his life, saying, “I’ve been a councillor for 12 years and never imagined I would be attacked in my area.” Local MP Mala Roy and MLA Javed Khan later visited Ghosh to offer their support.
