‘Strict Action Coming’: Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Targets Fake News Spreaders Amid Security Alert, Calls It a Serious Crime
Mumbai, 9th May 2025: Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, has issued a stern warning to social media users, stating that strict action will be taken against anyone spreading fake news, as it constitutes a serious crime. Since the Pahalgam terrorist attack on 22nd April, which claimed 26 lives, social media has been flooded with unverified reports and misinformation. The situation intensified further following Operation Sindoor, with the spread of false information reaching alarming levels.
In light of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently held a review meeting with police and administrative officials across the state. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde was also present at the meeting. Speaking afterwards, Shinde said, “In the coming two to three days, discussions will be held with the Navy, Air Force, Army, and Indian Coast Guard regarding any cooperation required from the Maharashtra government.”
He added, “A meeting of security secretaries was held today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The focus was on ensuring that Mumbai and Maharashtra remain secure under all circumstances. Spreading fake news on social media is a serious offence, and it was decided that strict action will be taken against those responsible.”
Shinde also appealed to the public to avoid filming or broadcasting footage of any army or coast guard preparations. “It is crucial from a security standpoint, and this issue was discussed at length,” he said.
