Shiv Sena Leader Advocates for 100 Assembly Seats in Maharashtra Elections

Mumbai, 20th June 2024: A senior leader from the Shiv Sena, under Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has advocated for his party to contest at least 100 of the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra. The Shiv Sena is part of the Mahayuti coalition, which includes the BJP and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

The state assembly elections are scheduled for October.

“We should be allocated 100 seats to contest, and we will ensure winning 90 of them,” former state minister Ramdas Kadam stated on Wednesday at the 58th Foundation Day event of the undivided Shiv Sena, organized by the Shinde faction at the NSCI complex.

Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal recently expressed that his party should contest 80-90 seats in the upcoming assembly elections.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remarked that the BJP, being the largest party, will contest the most seats in the state election. However, he added that the final seat-sharing arrangement will be decided after discussions among leaders of the three parties.

In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the ruling Mahayuti secured 17 out of 48 seats in the state, with the BJP winning 9, Shiv Sena 7, and NCP 1.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, consisting of the Congress, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP), won 30 seats.
