Seat-Sharing Discord: Sanjay Nirupam Criticizes Uddhav Thackeray’s Unilateral Move in Mumbai North-West
Mumbai, 10th March 2024: Sanjay Nirupam has expressed dissatisfaction with Uddhav Thackeray’s premature announcement of Amol Kirtikar as the Shiv Sena candidate for Mumbai’s North-West Lok Sabha constituency. Nirupam criticizes the move, stating that it violates alliance principles within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) before finalizing seat-sharing arrangements. The Mumbai North-West seat remains a point of contention, as no official decision has been reached despite numerous MVA meetings.
Nirupam raises concerns about the announcement’s timing, suggesting a potential deliberate attempt to undermine the Congress party. He calls for the intervention of the top leadership of Congress in this matter. Furthermore, Nirupam levels serious accusations against Amol Kirtikar, linking him to the ‘Khichdi Scam,’ alleging that Kirtikar accepted bribes during the BMC’s Covid-era program to provide free food to migrant labourers. The Enforcement Directorate is currently investigating these allegations.
In addition to questioning the ethical implications of supporting a candidate involved in a scam, Nirupam points out that Gajanan Kirtikar, Amol Kirtikar’s father, is the sitting MP from the same constituency and is affiliated with the rival Shiv Sena faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
