Raj and Uddhav to Reunite? Thackeray’s Recent Statements Spark Political Speculation

Mumbai, 19th April 2025: In a candid interview with Mahesh Manjrekar, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray addressed long-standing speculation about a political alliance with his cousin and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Uddhav Thackeray.

Responding to a direct question on whether the two Thackerays could come together, Raj Thackeray said, “Any personal differences between us are trivial compared to the larger issues facing Maharashtra. The state is vast, and for the survival of the Marathi people, these disputes are insignificant. Coming together and staying united is not difficult; it is just a matter of willingness. This is not just my issue; I believe all Marathi leaders across parties should unite to form a single party.”

Raj acknowledged the political complexities, noting his past departure from Shiv Sena and the separate political path of Eknath Shinde, but emphasised that when he was in Shiv Sena, he had no hesitation working with Uddhav. “Whether he wants to work with me is another question. If Maharashtra desires it, the people should express that wish. I do not let ego come in the way of such matters,” he added, signalling openness to reconciliation.

On the question of whether MNS should join hands with BJP for Maharashtra’s welfare, Raj Thackeray was measured, stating, “Working with BJP for Maharashtra’s benefit could be political, but we won’t agree on everything. We might shake hands or just greet each other. When I speak against attempts to dominate Maharashtra, I don’t know how much support I will get from other parties.”

Following Raj’s remarks, Uddhav Thackeray responded positively, declaring, “There was no real conflict between us. I announce that our differences have been resolved. It is now up to all Marathi people to decide whether to join the BJP or stand with me. I ask for unconditional support. Maharashtra’s welfare is my only condition.”
