Pune Students Block Lal Bahadur Shastri Road, Demand Inclusion of Agricultural Posts in MPSC Exam
Pune, 21st August 2024: Students preparing for competitive exams in Pune launched a sudden protest last night, blocking Lal Bahadur Shastri Road in Navi Peth. The Maharashtra Civil Services Gazetted Combined Preliminary Examination-2024, conducted by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), is scheduled for 25th August, and the students are demanding that agricultural service posts be included in this exam.
The protest specifically calls for the inclusion of 258 posts from the Agriculture Department in the MPSC exam. Additionally, protesters expressed concerns about the exam being scheduled on the same day as the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) exam, urging for a postponement.
The movement began after the MPSC issued a circular stating that it was not possible to include agricultural service posts in the Maharashtra Civil Services Gazetted Combined Preliminary Examination-2024. In response, students in Pune took to the streets to protest the decision, with a large number participating.
As the protest grew, the police intervened. The large gathering on Lal Bahadur Shastri Road during rush hour caused significant traffic disruption. Police appealed to the students to protest peacefully and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
