Pune: PMRDA Secures 410 Crores for Pune Metro in Central Government Funding
Pune, 6th November 2023: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has secured 410 crores in funding from the central government for the ambitious Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar metro project. This project, stretching 23 kilometres with 23 stations, aims to enhance public transportation in the region. The endeavour operates on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis, with an estimated total cost of 8,313 crores.
A dedicated entity, Pune IT CT Metro Rail Limited, has been established for its execution. PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal and Chief Engineer Rinaj Pathan pursued the central government’s finance department to secure these funds, and their efforts have paid off.
A recent survey indicates that approximately 14 lakh citizens travel in the vicinity of this metro line daily. The route is expected to allow commuters to seamlessly switch lines at Shivajinagar and Civil Court, facilitating access to various parts of the city via Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited. With a travel time of just 35 minutes between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar, the metro project promises to significantly improve convenience for residents. PMRDA reports that nearly 50 per cent of the project has been completed.
PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal, stated, “Received funds of 410 crores from the central government will speed up the work of this Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar Metro project. It will help in the early completion of the project.”
