Praful Patel Criticizes Opposition’s Politicization of Delhi Airport Terminal 1 Incident
New Delhi, 28th June 2024: In New Delhi, NCP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Praful Patel has strongly criticized the opposition for politicizing the tragic incident at Delhi airport’s Terminal 1, where a section of the roof over a car park collapsed following heavy rain on Friday. The incident resulted in one fatality and eight injuries.
Expressing condolences to the deceased’s family and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured, Patel emphasized that the structure, which was constructed under his oversight during his tenure as Union Aviation Minister in 2009 under the Congress-led UPA government, was built by Larsen & Toubro, a renowned construction company.
While addressing concerns about the incident, Patel highlighted the need for a comprehensive audit to ascertain the causes, stressing that any conclusions about the incident require a thorough investigation, considering the building’s extensive usage over the past 15 years.
Responding to demands from the opposition for a thorough inquiry, Patel agreed on the importance of addressing such incidents promptly and responsibly, criticizing the politicization of the issue as inappropriate, particularly when dealing with loss of lives.
Meanwhile, the current Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu, has assured a full investigation by the DGCA into the collapse and announced refunds for affected passengers due to the closure of Terminal 1.
The comments from Patel come in response to accusations from Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, alleging negligence and corruption under the Modi government, which Naidu refuted, clarifying that the Prime Minister inaugurated a different facility, not Terminal 1.
