PM Modi Urges Peaceful Resolution to Ukraine Conflict During Historic Poland Visit
Warsaw, 22nd August 2024: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that conflicts cannot be resolved through warfare and promised India’s full cooperation to restore peace and stability as the Russia-Ukraine conflict surpasses 900 days.
Speaking during his visit to Poland, a day before heading to Ukraine, Modi expressed “deep concern” over the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. “The issues in Ukraine and West Asia are of significant concern. India firmly believes that conflicts cannot be resolved on the battlefield,” Modi stated following discussions with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Modi highlighted the grave challenge posed by the loss of innocent lives during crises. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy for achieving peace and stability and offered India’s support in collaboration with allied nations.
Modi’s visit to Warsaw marks the first by an Indian prime minister in 45 years. During his talks with Tusk, they elevated India-Poland relations to a strategic partnership. “This year marks the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic ties, and we have agreed to enhance our relationship to a strategic partnership,” Modi announced.
He also expressed gratitude to Tusk for Poland’s role in evacuating Indian students from Ukraine during the 2022 conflict and reiterated the need for reforms in the United Nations and other global institutions.
Modi will next travel to Kyiv, embarking on a 10-hour train journey, and will spend approximately seven hours in the Ukrainian capital at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
