PM Modi: India Will Start Global South Scholarship For Higher Education
Delhi, 13th January 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the concluding session of the Voice of Global South Summit on Friday. PM Modi said that in the last two days, more than 120 developing countries participated in this summit. It is the largest virtual gathering in the Global South. He said that the last three years have been difficult, especially for developing countries like ours. PM Modi said that the beginning of the new year is a time of new hope. “We all support globalization. India has always seen the world as one family,” he said.
PM Modi said that developing countries want globalization which does not cause climate or debt crises. He said, “We want globalization which does not lead to unequal distribution of vaccines, which brings prosperity and well-being to humanity.”
PM Modi said, “We urgently need a fundamental reform in key international organizations, including the United Nations Security Council and the Bretton Woods institutions.” He said India would set up a ‘Global South Center of Excellence’. Prime Minister Modi said, “I am happy to inform you about a new project – Arogya Maitri. Under this, India will provide medical assistance to developing countries facing natural disasters and humanitarian crises.”
PM Modi said, “To activate our diplomatic voice, I propose a Global South Young Diplomats Forum to connect young officials with our foreign ministries. India will also start a Global South Scholarship for students from developing countries to pursue higher education in India.”
